What's very interesting about this site is that around August 18, a tropical storm passed by, bringing cooler water to the Bermuda coastline. This sudden break in the severe heat stress has helped the corals recover from heat stress at this site.
The exact same scenario happened in the fall of 2023 and 2022 when hurricanes came and cooled down the reef. 2022 was the warmest summer out of these three, and the hurricane that cooled down the reef that summer came at the last moment because many corals were severely bleached, but they managed to recover much thanks to the cooler temperature. Watch the journey of the corals from healthy to bleached to recovery in 2022 on this page.
